Where the collection comes from
HackerTube, prompted by Andrej Karpathy, processed links in the open-index/hacker-news archive. We imported its published videos and topic taxonomy, with attribution under ODC-By 1.0.
The current export contains 6,454 videos in 16 areas. Those are counts of imported records, not a claim that every video is still playable. The export’s date is 2026-10-31; the last source change accepted here was 2026-11-02.
Descriptions and recommendations
Video descriptions, recommendation explanations and categories come from the source’s AI-assisted curation. They may misread a comment or overstate a video’s scope. We mark this on video pages, avoid invented reviews and link to the underlying discussion when an original comment is available.
Recommendation scores describe a sample of archived comments. This site does not test the truth of every statement made in each video. A video’s age, creator and original context can change how useful it is.
What we publish and update
The daily update process fetches the original export, validates records and compares content fingerprints. A failed or unexpectedly incomplete source leaves the previous valid collection in place. An unchanged source leaves the content date untouched.
Video records remain traceable through the source export and their YouTube IDs. We do not claim to own the films, rehost video files or offer a download service.
Credits and use of media
Dataset credit: HackerTube and open-index/hacker-news, Open Data Commons Attribution License 1.0. Videos and frames remain their creators’ work. Preview frames are served by YouTube’s image service using the format documented in the source’s DATA.md. Playback uses the YouTube embed.
The HackerTube.live logo and layout were created for this independent site. We are not affiliated with the original project, Andrej Karpathy, Hacker News, Y Combinator, YouTube or Google.
